Tom lives with his gran in a London tower block estate ruled by gangs. He isn’t one of the bad guys, but has to live in this world where awful things like rape, drug dealing and extrem violence happen every day and everyone is too afraid to say or do anything about that.

One day Tom is on his way to his friend and secret crush Lucy when he hears someone call his name from one of the highest floors of the tower building in front of him. He looks up and sees something dark flying in his direction but he can’t duck in time to avoid being hit by this thing. The next time he opens his eyes he finds himself in a hospital bed in intensive care. What has happenened? A gang has attacked Lucy in her own home, raped her several times and has beaten up her brother Ben. One of the attackers has thrown an iPhone down the house. This iPhone turned out to be the thing that hit Tom’s head, broke his skull, penetrated his brain and almost killed him.

However, rather than the impact killing him something incredible happens, the chip of the iPhone connects with the neural system of Tom’s brain. When he wakes up from the coma he is not only linked with the global network of all possible data highways but can also control electrical fields. With this power he starts to find out everything about the attackers and wants to take vengeance. Of course this idea of a boy with supernatural powers because of an iPhone chip is somehow crazy or even ridiculous, but this isn’t what iBoy is only about. It also shows Tom’s development from a normal boy to a character he hardly even knows himself, hard and merciless. He learns that nothing is simply black or white and that there are always two sides to everything.

I almost couldn’t put the book down because the story is so dark, thrilling and terrifying: FIVE STARS!!
