This is the second part of the Maze Runner Trilogy.

After Thomas and the other Gladers have escaped out of the giant maze, they are in the real world again. The entire world is infected by an illness called the Flare. It was caused by extreme solar eruptions so nature is destroyed and every human who is unprotected gets infected by the Flare. The gladers were brought into a huge mansion with enough dormitories where they were supplied with food. But now, after a day, however, they end up locked up in the house with no food.

So they have nothing to eat for a few days while strange things happen until a man of WICKED, a secret organisition, appears in a room, by miracle. He tells the group of teenagers that they have a difficult task to do: Reach the other end of the Killzone, a large zone of wasteland without shelter under the endlessly burning sun, within two weeks.

So the group eats for the last time under a shelter and then they start their journey where they have to fight head-eating metal balls and Cranks, those who are infected with the flare. Not only that they already have enough worries, but then Teresa disappears and is “replaced” by a new boy, Aris. Furthermore, they learn that Teresa is called The Betrayer and that they have to fight a bunch of girls, but they have no clue what that is supposed to mean.
Thomas still tries to find more information about his identy and the sense of these tests.

I liked this book as well as the first one because there always happened something exciting so I couldn’t put it away. I can hardly wait for the last part because there was a real cliffhanger at the end of this book.
